Five genera and 48 species of AM fungi were isolated form rhizosphere soil of ginger from four selected localities. Glomus was dominant with 31 species. It was followed by 8 species of Scutellospora, 6 species of Acaulospora, 2 species of Gigaspora and 1 species of Entrophospora. Glomus aggregatum, G. callosum, G. delhiense, G. fasciculatum, G. intraradix, G. mosseae, Scutellospora calospora and S. fulgida were most common. Maximum number of AM propagules /100 g of rhizosphere soil were 837 and 394 in non rhizosphere soil. Cent percent root infection was recorded on 150th day. Number and surface area of leaves, GVI and biomass was more in experimental than control plants during salt and water stress. Chlorophyll and total soluble carbohydrates were more in experimental than control plants during salt and water stress. DNA and RNA, protein, proline and reducing sugars content was more in control than experimental plants during salt and water stress. The 6 Gingerol was more in experimental than control plants. The number and surface area of leaves was more in experimental plants than control plants during the infection of Pythium ultimatum.
