The onset of Green Revolution in India, undoubtedly solved the food crisis, but was accompanied by the chemical pesticides syndrome. With the ever increasing awareness about the harmful effects of chemical pesticides on man and his environment, the immediate need for sustainable eco friendly pest management has been felt very strongly, providing an impetus for research and development of microbial insecticides for obvious reasons. A growing pressure to reduce chemical pesticides usage in crop production particularly for export market in the back drop of WTO regime, makes microbial pesticides attractive candidates for the Integrated Pest Management (IPM). In the recent past, emphasis has been given on the importance of pest management involving a sound knowledge of ecology of the pests. One of the important components in pest management is microbial suppression of insect pests, employing pathogens such as bacteria, fungi, viruses etc., and their compatibility with chemical pesticides, apart from combination of pesticides.
