The heritage value of the mixed wood-masonry 18th century Pombalino buildings of downtown Lisbon is recognized both nationally and internationally. The present book focuses, first, on the definition of soil characteristics of downtown Lisbon and on the definition of seismic action for assessment. Secondly, focus was put on the interior walls of the Pombalino buildings, known as “frontal” walls. An experimental campaign to obtain the hysteretic behaviour of these “frontal” walls was carried out using static cyclic shear testing with imposed displacements. Thirdly, based on the experimental results obtained, a macro-element was developed for “frontal” walls. This was obtained based on the development of a hysteretic model to describe the cyclic behaviour of the Pombalino “frontal” walls. Finally, the last part of this study focuses on the modelling of a typical Pombalino building wherein the previously described macro-element for “frontal” walls has been incorporated. The modelling includes macro-elements for the masonry panels and macro-elements also for the internal “frontal” walls.
