This book addresses the problem of associating Calvin with Scotism and Turretin with Thomism on the question of the value of meritum Christi which places them in different camps. The author argues that Calvin and Turretin ground the meritorious work of Christ in the person of Christ, that is, in the infinite value of Christ as the Son of God, by reason of which his life and death have infinite merit for the forgiveness and redemption of sinners. Turretin stands on Calvin's shoulders. Though Calvin and Turretin have similarities with both Scotism and Thomism respectively, these similarities are only formal and not material. The differences between Calvin and Scotus outweigh the similarities and as such it is unwarranted to describe Calvin a Scotist.
