The study of harmony and didacticism in indigenous songs of AmaXhosa is an area that has not been specifically dealt with, yet its importance in nation building cannot be overemphasized. It also attempt to respond to criticism advanced by the 19th century pioneers who arrived in Southern Africa. They condemned traditional music and all indigenous rites as heathen and therefore pagan. Yet they are very well positioned to develop both the young and the old, and also identity and consciousness through interaction with music and culture. The book illustrates that developing our own children with our own music can bring consequent change, for example, in terms of identity and self-reliance.
