The medical education and health care in India are facing serious challenges in need based content and competencies. Objective of internship is to train the medical graduates in application of theoretical aspects in hospital and community settings. Interns are expected to be the Primary care physician. Learning Environment make a difference in how the students learn and achieve their goals but constraint of resources in RHTC affects the learning process. Considering these aspects, the current study was conducted among interns of a Medical College, for assessing the environment favorable to learning and evaluating the effectiveness of rural internship training programme. It concluded that rural internship programme was effective in delivering the knowledge and skills to interns but it fails to motivate the interns to work in rural area in future. The poor physical infrastructure of rural centre was the main hurdle for avoiding the rural postings. It is recommended to strengthen rural health centre in terms of infrastructure. The teaching has to task oriented to arouse the interest and glamorize by incentives and good facility to motivate them to work in rural areas.
