Spinel Ferrites have attracted much attention due to their significant magnetic and catalytic properties. Simple spinel ferrites with the general formula MIIFeIII2O4 were found to be effective catalysts for various organic transformations. The catalytic activity of ferrites for many reactions arises due to the ease with which iron can exchange oxidation state between 2 and 3.The work presented in this book titled as “Synthesis, Characterisation, Catalytic and Cytotoxic Studies of some substituted nano ferrites”. Cobalt substituted Nickel Zinc Ferrites with the general formulae Co0.5-xNi0.5ZnxFe2O4 and CoxNi0.5-xZn0.5Fe2O4 with x values 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 have been chosen for the study. A total of 9 substituted ferrite samples were prepared by sol-gel citrate precursor method but results from only six samples with cobalt substitution were selected and presented in the study. These magnetic ferrospinels have been characterised by various physic-chemical methods. The application of these materials has been evaluated as heterogeneous magnetically separable catalysts for the one-pot synthesis of some substituted imidazoles, pyridines and cytotoxic studies.
