Ethnopharmacological study of Saraca asoca (Roxb)Herbal medicine is a major component in all indigenous peoples' traditional medicine and a common element in Ayurvedic, homeopathic, naturopathic, traditional oriental, and Native American Indian medicine. WHO note that of 119 plant-derived pharmaceutical medicines, about 74% are used in modern medicine in ways that correlated directly with their traditional uses as plant medicines by native cultures. Saraca asoca "Ashok briksh", is known under a variety of names in different languages: Tamil, asogam; Hindi: ashoka.Saracaasocaroxb. Root is used for treatement of paralysis, hemiplegia, numbness and visceral, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis and herpes-kushta.Based on ethanol pharmacological information the present study is focused on the evaluation of preliminary phytochemical and anti-ulcer activity.
