In Africa and particularly Nigeria, research has shown that there is a general manifestation of gender inequality in the contemporary times that is skewed in favour of men and against women in governance and leadership in general. Given that women are marginal in governance and politics women empowerment campaigners and women liberation feminists decry the social position of women. Studies on gender relations and governance in Nigeria largely focused on the marginalisation of women by men with negligible attention on the role of women in this gender-based political imbalance. Men are not totally to be blamed for this lopsidedness of various forms of power in their favour. According to Edmond Burk, power is sweet and those who have it find it difficult to cede it except there is a superior force to coerce them to do so. With the rendition of women empowerment through the external factors the feminist miss critical points of women political and leadership empowerment.
