This book discusses examples of acculturation and untranslatability challenges which occur to audiovisual translators during audiovisual translation processes. It further investigates how audiovisual translators should deal with the interplay between the verbal and visual modes to reach a sound translation away from literality and cultural gaps which usually take place when rendering meaning from one language to another and from one culture to another. Therefore, the book shows how Gunther Kress' Multimodality Theory (2010) and Juliane House's Communicative Translation Tool (2016) can be applied to some English subtitles of selected American TV shows, scrutinizes the linguistic and cultural barriers facing the audiovisual, and finally suggests possible solutions for such translation problems. The book also examines out how multimodal and intersemiotic relations between the different modes of discourse contribute to the generation of a new translated text with a new layout product in terms of language and culture as well.
